Have you ever stopped to think about how organizations sustain their success? It is hard for organizations to survive in the long run. The average life span for a U.S. Corporation is roughly 40 years. In Japan, it is only 10 years. If you were to look at the July 1955 FORTUNE 500 directory, you would find that only 71 of the 500 companies listed then are still listed today. Long term business survival is tough and will only get tougher. However, there is one organization that didn't make the FORTUNE list that is easily and clearly the most successful organization in history. It also happens to be a non-profit organization that has the largest number of members, highest revenues, most assets, greatest giving, broadest diversity, largest growth, greatest longevity, and most lasting impact. What organization is it? The Church. I hope you're a member of this organization and more importantly, I hope you personally know its Chairman - I do.
